Care

  • Water: soft, slightly acidic water (pH 6.0–6.8, GH 4–6, TDS 100–120). Use RO/RODI water remineralized for Caridina and an active shrimp soil to hold the pH.
  • Tank: fully cycled and mature, with moss and plenty of biofilm. Ammonia and nitrite at 0, nitrate under 25 ppm. A sponge filter (or a sponge over the intake) keeps babies safe.
  • Stability: 10–20% water change weekly with water matched in TDS and temperature (72–78°F). Avoid sudden swings.
  • Feeding: small amounts 2–3 times a week; remove leftovers. Overfeeding is the most common cause of losses.
  • Avoid copper: no copper-based medications, fertilizers or fittings.
  • Breeding: females carry eggs about 30 days. Shrimplets eat only biofilm at first, so a well-established tank is key.
